Last Saturday Mayor Marty Walsh took the stage with the East Boston Woman of The Year, Veronica Robles, dancing to the beat of Cha Cha, in support of the VROCC Youth Initiative Healthy Living through Art & Culture” to prevent street violence and destructive behavior among high school students in East Boston.


Boston, MA - Wednesday, February 22, 2017 - Mayor Marty Walsh attended VROCC’s Third Annual Valentine's Day Serenade and offered a certificate of recognition to Veronica Robles in honor of being chosen East Boston Times 2016 Woman of The Year and in appreciation of her commitment and dedication to promoting harmony between all cultures and residents of East Boston.


“Veronica, thank you for celebrating the rich diversity of your community through art, music, festivals, and activism for social change” commented Mayor Walsh.


The Mayor, Councilor Ayanna Pressley and over 100 guests enjoyed a romantic music repertoire by Robles, accompanied by her Mariachi ensemble, and a delicious dinner provided by Wingstop of East Boston, Jose’s Mexican Restaurant, and Taranta Boston. Massport, East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, East Boston Main Streets, the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, Cicarelli Homes, Castillo Liquors, and EBECC received special mentions in gratitude for their support.


This is one of several events organized to raise funds to be used towards cultural programs offered by VROCC. This year the organization launched the Arts and Culture Business Development and Healthy Lifestyle Youth Initiative to prevent street violence and destructive behavior among high school students in East Boston. VROCC is working in collaboration with East Boston High School, Project Shine of East Boston Neighborhood Health Center and East Boston Ecumenical Community Council (EBECC) and other members of the community on this important initiative.
